Sailing Programme 2011

Sailing Programme 2011

This is now available on the EYC web site in the section “Sailing at the EYC”. Handbooks and Sailing Instructions are being edited and will go to the printers soon. In advance of publication of the Sailing instructions and Sailing Programme, please see the briefing below from the Sailing Committee.

There are some programme changes and alterations in format this season. There are no course changes.

The starting order will not always be Fast, EOD, Cruiser and Slow/cadets - mainly where there are multiple handicap starts for the handicap fleets and extra time is needed for the EODs and Cruisers to get on board and rig - so spread the word. This occurs on 21 May, 13 & 14 August and 1 & 2 October. Also see 18 June when EODs start first in the EOD Championships. Check your programmes please for the timings, sequence and start lines.

On 1 October there will be a ten minute break in the start sequence between the handicap fleets and the EODs as opposed to the traditional 5 minutes.

Benfleet YC are running the Cotgrove and TEYC the Interclub Dinghy Team race ( 6 Clubs not 5 are expected to enter in 2011) on 10 and 11 September so make a note in the diary please as we will want to maximize our turnouts. Contact your class captain if you want to enter the Team Race but as entries have to be submitted in advance do so at least 2 weeks beforehand.

There are a number of all in races marked in the programme as such and they are marked so that cadets are aware they can join in. These will start under code flag “F”.

The cadets still in school education or of equivalent age to be so during any time in 2011 can enter the cadet races. There are 3 series: Easter, Spring/ Summer and a longer Autumn Series with 4 of the races taking place off Bell Wharf as part of the Old Leigh Regatta on 17/18 September. Except on 15 May when the main fleet will sail the River race the cadet starts will coincide with the slow handicap starts.

The class flag for cadets is code flag “A”. Their joint start flag with the slows is code “D” and for all in events will be code “F”. Code “A” will be shown together with “S” if only the cadets are shortened unless all classes are shortened when it will be “S” only. Similar provisions apply with the respective class flags to the other classes.

Medium and Fast will when combined start under flag “F”-so spread the word please.

We have agreed with LSC to start fast and medium classes together on the same course. Slow and cadets will normally, but not quite always, start together and sail the same course. Cadets are welcome to sail with the slows (code flag “D”) on any occasion they are sailing not just the cadet races.

Courses will be around the existing buoys with the cadets and slow class sailing courses 2 to 7 in their joint races.

There will be one start per tide unless marked in the handbook or on the occasion of special events such as the rapid races (28 Aug) when additional sailing instructions will be published- Inflatables may be used for special events in those cases.

The handicap ladies/crews race on 18 June will be raced as one start although there are separate trophies to be won; with cadets in cruisers as a separate start. On this occasion the EODs will start before the other races.

The LSC Centenary Racing at Leigh SC on 2 July will consist of a race to the Island YC and is open to all including cadets except the EODs, Cruisers and ISOs who have their own programme. The Topper Relay will be run from the beach at Bell Bay.

There is talk of a visitors prize being put up for the LSC Commodores race on 3 July, which is open to all except Cruisers and ISOs. Although LSC welcome participation in their Centenary events only members of LSC can win the prizes.

There is a social function with fireworks at LSC after the Nore Race on 9 July to which all are welcome(the date of this function not the Nore Race may be changed so look out for an announcement).
